Outreach: The act of reaching out to others. At St. Stephen's Memorial Anglican Church, outreach is an important part of parishioner's lives and as such, they support many projects that reach out into our community and beyond. Below, and on the left, you will find a list of organizations which St. Stephen's Memorial has provided outreach to in some way. Below, and on the right, you will find a brief explanation of the organization, a link to them and how we reach out to each organization. ANGLICAN CHURCH OF CANADA - Primate’s World Relief Development Fund (PWRDF)
The Primate's Fund is the Canadian Anglican response for emergency relief, refugees, development, and justice. And it's making a difference in the world. For more information about PWRDF please click here. Parishioners are invited to help fund relief projects by making donations in the “blue” envelopes received with their offering envelopes.
CANADIAN BIBLE SOCIETY - Stamps for Scripture

Sowing God's Word that hearts and lives might be changed. The Canadian Bible Society (CBS) translates, publishes and distributes the Bible throughout Canada. The Bible is now available in over 2,000 languages. CBS encourages Bible reading through the distribution of Bibles, scriptures, and other resources. You can visit the Sowers Bookstore located at 424 Waterloo St, London, 519-432-6663. More information can be found on the CBS website by clicking here. St. Stephen's Memorial supports the Canadian Bible Society through the donation of cancelled stamps for their Stamps for Scripture program. Cancelled stamps from the Office are donated and then sold to collectors with the proceeds being used to pay for Bibles. Scripture Selections are received and a donation is sent to the Canadian Bible Society for these inserts, brochures and bookmarks. Finally, Sowers Bookstore is a source for Christian supplies such as special bulletin covers.
CHILDREN'S HEALTH FOUNDATION Children’s Health Foundation is the charitable fundraising resource for Children’s Hospital and Children’s Health Research Institute. The Foundation is dedicated to raising and granting funds to support specialized health care and research for children and youth—now and in the future. For more information, please click here Children's Hospital of Western Ontario provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for children from birth through age 17. Children's Hospital of Western Ontario is also a major centre for medical research, serves as a teaching hospital for physicians, nurses and other health professionals, and has an active continuing medical education program. For more information, please click here. A donation was given to the Children's Health Foundation, by St. Stephen's Memorial during the annual Radiothon.
CIBC RUN FOR THE CURE The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is an extraordinary single-day experience that unites more than 170,000 Canadians in 55 communities across the country. Together, we're raising millions of dollars to fund innovative and relevant breast cancer research, education, and awareness programs in the communities where you live. For more information about the CIBC Run for the Cure please click here. A group of parishioners that walk in the CIBC Run for the Cure to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation every October. This group walks in memory of a parishioner that lost the battle with breast cancer. Donations to Penny's Pals are gratefully appreciated. Please see a "Pal" on any Sunday in September at St. Stephen's Memorial ~ members will be identified with a special button.
DIOCESE OF THE ARCTIC The Diocese of the Arctic is the largest Anglican Diocese in the world and has some unique ministries and needs. More information can be found here. The Church School leaders were able to send curriculum that was no longer needed at St. Stephen's Memorial to the Diocese of the Arctic - where it would be put to use where it is needed most.
MISSION SERVICES - Mission Store
- Undie Sunday
Always an open dooor... Mission Services opens doors of hope to those seeking emergency shelter and support, by offering safe shelter, food, clothing and by facilitating rehabilitation as needed, in an atmosphere of compassion. Specific services offered include the Men's Mission (emergency shelter and residence for men over the age of 16), Quintin Warner House (addiction services for men), Rotholme Women's and Family Shelter (emergency shelter for women and/or families), the Mission Store (household items available at modest prices or free with voucher for those in need), and various Community Mental Health Services. More information can be found here. St. Stephen's Memorial holds an annual Yard Sale each June. Any leftover household items and clothing are packed up and taken to the Mission Store. Items that are needed may be given away to those with a voucher or purchased by those going into the store. Coming in September 2008, St. Stephen's Memorial is having an "Undie Sunday" which will support Mission Services and their clients in which ever program is best suited to receive it. Parishioners should bring NEW (tags attached or in un-opened packages) to church on September 28th and place them in the Undie Sunday box that will be available on that day.
OXFAM CANADA Oxfam Canada responds to humanitarian crises, both natural disasters and conflict. We work to meet basic needs, protect lives and promote health, and to restore livelihoods, supporting recovery and reconstruction. The "Stamp Out Hunger" campaign collects Canadian and International stamps (cancelled) and envelopes (if the postmark is clear). The stamps are sold to collectors and then the money is used to pay for their humanitarian aid around the world. More information can be found here. Parishioners at St. Stephen's Memorial have an opportunity to support Oxfam by bringing in their cancelled stamps/used envelopes and placing them in the specially marked folder on the bulletin board.
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE - London's Ronald McDonald House
The house that love built... London's Ronald McDonald House is a short-term residential facility where families of seriously ill children can reside while their children receive medical treatment. Since these children need the support of their parents the Ronald McDonald House provides a secure and stable environment for families during this stressful time. It is located at 741 Baseline Rd E, London, 519-685-3232. More information can be found here. After raising money at several events, our Youth Group has made a monetary donation to the Ronald McDonald House.
SALVATION ARMY The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world. A variety of fundraisers take place throughout the year, to support their mission. Volunteers from St. Stephen's Memorial take turns to collect donations in the Christmas Kettle Campaign at a local business location.
SLEEPING CHILDREND AROUND THE WORLD Sleeping Children Around the World believes that it is the basic right of every child to have a comfortable night's sleep.
Through financial donations, bedkits are prepared for needy children all over the world. Volunteers deliver bed kits in various countries, and no administrative costs are incurred by this registered charity. More information about Sleeping Children Around the World can be found here. Youth members of St. Stephen's Memorial have been participating in a monthly "Treasure Chest" sale. This mini garage sale has raised more than one hundred dollars each Sunday it takes place. Treasures are gratefully received - please contact the office to be put in touch with the organizer. Individual members have donated to SCAW during a presentation given at St. Stephen's Memorial during the spring of 2007.
ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL - Christmas Share

Christmas Share runs each December and helps to ensure that individuals and families in London receive a Christmas Hamper. The Daily Bread runs this in conjunction with the Salvation Army to ensure families are registered for only one hamper. Donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries and Christmas presents are needed. Daily Bread is a food bank serving individuals and families in need from the London area. Donations of non-perishable foods, toiletries, clean 250 & 500 ml containers, plastic bags, re-usable shopping bags and empty egg cartons are always needed. The Dean's Wellness Fund is in support of the Diocese of Mthatha in South Africa. A variety of fundraisers are taking place here in Ontario, in order to finance much needed programs in South Africa. The Fellowship Centre is a soup kitchen serving adults in need from the London area. Soup and a sandwich are provided Monday to Friday to those arriving downstairs at St. Paul’s between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. Donations of bread, luncheon meats, desserts and sandwich spreads are needed, as well as volunteers to assist in preparation, serving and clean up. More information about the Social Service Programs offered by St. Paul's Cathedral can be found by clicking here. Parishioners donate their time to help pack and/or deliver Christmas Hampers, as well as making donations of food, money and presents on "White Gift Sunday" in December. "White Gift Sunday Kits" are handed out during November. Parishioners of St. Stephen's Memorial are encouraged to bring in donations (see list above) for the Daily Bread food bank. Donations are placed in a wicker hamper in the North Stairwell, Main Landing as parishioners enter the church. Financial donations are also received through parishioner’s offering envelopes and is sent quarterly with the budgeted amount from the parish. 2008 Church Calendars were sold to parishioners with the proceeds of the calendar going to the Dean's Wellness Fund. 2008 Calendars are still available by contacting the Church Office at office@ststephenslondon.com. St. Stephen’s Memorial supports the Fellowship Centre following our annual Yard Sale in June. Any left over mugs, soup bowls, and spoons are donated to the Fellowship Centre as there is an ongoing need for these items.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Regretfully, as all food donations are sent to the Daily Bread Program, we do not have food items or grocery vouchers to give to individuals and/or families in need.
TABS 4 KID'S WHEELS Pop can tabs are collected and sent in via churches, schools, scouting and guiding units. The tabs are turned in for cash and the money is used to purchase wheel chairs in the London and surrounding area. For more information click here. Donations of pop can tabs (and only pop can tabs) can be brought in to the Church Office for forwarding to the Tabs 4 Kid's Wheels campaign.
UPPER THAMES RIVER CONSERVATION AUTHORITY An annual event to celebrate Earth Day in London... often features Tree Planting, Bird Box Building, Canadian Raptor Conservancy, LaffGuard Super Show, giant Caterpillar Crawl, Giant Soccer Net, Face Painting, Free Draws at Westminister Ponds located on Southdale Road, east of Wellington Rd. For more information click here. St. Stephen's Memorial supports the UTRCA and Earth Day by providing free overflow parking on the day of the event.
WORLD VISION - Sponsored Child
- 30 Hour Famine
In all of their work around the world, World Vision's focus is on children. Whether it's building schools or health clinics through child sponsorship programs, lobbying governments to change policies that hurt the poor, or responding to a humanitarian crisis, the needs of children are front and centre. For more information about World Vision please click here. The Church School Program at St. Stephen's Memorial Anglican Church supports a child through World Vision. Our Youth Group participates in the 30 Hour Famine each spring.
